Field to Feast: Spirits Food & Friends Burgers and Duncan Farms

2020 has been a difficult year for many, and for many different reasons. One major challenge Louisiana has been facing this year is an active and dangerous hurricane season. Robert Duncan is a cattle farmer in Rapides Parish and part of our Farm Bureau family. He and his wife Rachel have experienced two direct hits this year from Hurricane Laura and then Hurricane Delta right behind it. They got between 12- 17 inches of rain from Delta and lost their last 170 acres of beans. They have lots they could be down about, but that is not their style. Instead they are focused on the positives. Robert is a fourth generation cattle farmer and business has been good during the pandemic, partly due to diversification of their business model to include direct sales to consumers. And in even better news, they are expecting baby #2 around Thanksgiving.

I had the privilege of spending time with Robert to learn more about this Louisiana beef farmer. And after some time on the ranch, I went over to a local burger joint in Alexandria for what has been named one of Louisiana's TOP TEN HAMBURGERS. If you find yourself in the Alexandria area, I highly recommend a stop at Spirits Food & Friends. The locals call it the 'Cheers' of Central Louisiana. Ask for the award winning and absolutely delicious Knob Creek burger. It's a mouthful!
