Lafayette, La.—Visitors to the Children’s Museum of Acadiana now have a bushel of resources to help them learn about agriculture and how farmers and ranchers affect their daily lives.

Members of the Louisiana Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee donated nearly $1,000 in cash and a basket of books focused on agriculture to the Children’s Museum of Acadiana. Included in the donation was the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture 2019 Book of the Year Right This Very Minute by Lisl H. Detlefsen. The book shows what farmers are doing at any given moment to grow and raise the food we eat.

“Ag literacy is one of our missions,” said Louisiana Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee Chair Michele Simoneaux. “It’s vitally important that children know that food does not come from a grocery store. It comes from a farm or a ranch. This donation will make that knowledge readily available to children who may be two or three generations removed from the farm.”

Simoneaux presented the basket full of books to Children’s Museum of Acadiana Executive Director Carol McManus during the 2022 Women’s Leadership Committee Leadership Conference held at that Homewood Suites in Lafayette, La. on March 26, 2022.

The Louisiana Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee is comprised of 16 women from across the state whose families are involved in production agriculture. The committee’s mission is “to develop leadership for women, promote agriculture and develop public understanding of value and need of agriculture.”
